Martin Cosgrove

Age 26

Height 5’10”

Weight 12st

Cossy is a teak tough and speedy defender who loves to get forward. He was an important squad player who featured in almost every game in Davitts run to the 2011 All-Ireland Intermediate Club Final. He is also one of the more experienced players on the club’s junior team where his dedication and commitment is a great example to the younger players.

Cossy’s all time favourite sportsman is wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and he often tries to incorporate some of The Rock’s moves on matchdays and in training.

Keith Glynn

Age 23

Height 6’ 1”

Weight 14st

A superb two footed footballer who captained Mayo Minors in 2007. Equally at home at midfield or in attack, Keith is now based in London and is a huge loss to the Davitts senior team. He would certainly be a permanent fixture on the Mayo senior team but for an unbelievable run of serious injuries.

Contrary to reports, Keith is not attached to a male modelling agency, but is in fact an advisor to Boris Johnson, the Lord Mayor of London. He worked well with Sebastian Coe to ensure the smooth running of the Olympic Games and was disappointed not to make The Queens new years honours list. Maybe next year Keith.

Player profile - The Hopper

Pat “Hopper” Hopkins

Age 30

Height 6’1”

Weight 10st

Hopper is a fitness fanatic who excels at a number of sports including soccer, tag rugby, cricket, badminton (not the one with horses) and cycling (as seen here sporting all all the essential bits of kit to rival the pros). He plays in the forwardline for the junior team when he’s not on holidays so unfortunately he misses a lot of games over the course of a season. Hopper has suffered a number of career threatening injuries and has grown very fond of Fitzy’s ice bath (not Smirnoff Ice). Pat is a great clubman and the man to contact if you are on the lookout for advice on a foreign holiday.

Player profile - Tommy Nolan

Tommy Nolan

Age 25

Height 5’10”

Weight 12st 4lbs

Tommy has made the full back position on the senior team his own this year following a string of solid performances. A very classy footballer who reads the game well, many of his displays this season left manager Pete Warren tickled pink. He has modelled his playing style on his all time hero Pat Coyne. Still improving as a player, Tommy has a big career ahead of him with Davitts and maybe at a higher level. Rumoured to be related to The Nolan Sisters, his version of that group’s 1980’s hit “I’m in the mood for dancing” has wooed audiences regularly at parties (allegedly).

Player profile - Josh Ronayne

Josh Ronayne

Age 20

Height 5’ 11”

Weight 12st 9lbs

Josh became an important attacker on the senior team this year before an ankle injury forced him to take a break. Before that he starred for the U-21 team with a string of terrific displays to claim the County C title and is sure to feature prominently on the County U-21 team next year. He was also a member of this year’s Mayo Junior panel. A strong running player who is deadly accurate with both feet makes him an extremely difficult opponent for any defender.

Josh is a former All-Ireland Scor na nOg recitation winner and says he wouldn’t rule out a career in acting when he quits playing football. His housemate and Davitts U-21 teammate Tommy Clarke (a keen movie buff) reckons that Josh could easily emulate Hollywood legends such as Will Ferrell, Jim Carrey and Ben Stiller. It is rumoured that he turned down a role in Fair City recently.

Player profile – Frankie Barrett

Player profile - Frankie Barrett

Age: 26

Height: 5’ 10”

Weight: 13st

Frankie (aka Lula) was a goalkeeper for many years before moving outfield and establishing himself as one of the best full backs in the county. A tough, no nonsense defender, he played a leading role for Davitts in their successful bid to win the Mayo and Connaught Intermediate Championships last year before emigrating to Australia. He showed what a superb clubman he is by returning for the All-Ireland final in February, and came on as a second half sub in that game.

Before leaving for Oz, Frankie was a very popular DJ in the South Mayo area. He is also a lover of fancy cars and his green post van was the envy of his teammates before he left. It appears that Frankie has not lost the ability to pick up an auto bargain judging by the lovely picture of vehicle Reg. No 1BAM222 (source: Kevin Pups Daly).

Johnno Clarke

Age: 22

Height: 5’11”

Weight: 12st 8lbs

Excellent attacking half back whose injury in last year’s county U-21 final probably cost Davitts the title. Played a big role at number 5 in the Intermediate team’s march to Croke Park last season. Working away this season has limited Johnno’s playing time on the Senior team but he contributed greatly to the Junior side reaching the County B Final in which we went down narrowly to Charlestown. Johnno is a great reader of the game who loves to go forward and usually gets onto the scoresheet.

Johnno is a big fan of classical music with Bach and Wagner among his favourite composers while Ear To The Ground, The Truth About Tractors, Saved By The Bell and Babestation are his favourite TV shows.

Player profile – Fearghal McGrath

Player profile - Fearghal McGrath

Fearghal McGrath

Age: 22

Height: 5’9”

Weight: 12st 6lbs

Fearghal is a top class forward, well able to win dirty ball, accurate with both feet and probably the best goal finisher in the club. Deceptively strong, this abrasive player loves the physical side of the game. He is a former Mayo minor and was a member of this year’s Mayo Junior panel along with clubmates Ronan MacNamara, Aidan McTigue and Josh Ronayne.

Fearghal plays anywhere in the forwardline but is probably most at home at full forward. He misses his legendary training ground battles with Frankie Lula, now in Australia.

Player profile - Kevin Gallagher

Kevin Gallagher

Age 22

Height 5’9”

Weight 11st 5lbs

Kevin has made the number 4 jersey his own in the last couple of years. Possibly the fittest corner back in Mayo, he just loves training. He delivered some memorable displays in last season’s run to the All-Ireland final.

Kevin, also known as Diego, possesses a left and right foot but rarely kicks with either. He has yet to score for the club but it is his intention to do so at least once before he retires.

Player profile - Colm Roche

Colm Roche

Age 29

Height 5’ 9”

Weight 12st

Colm is a highly versatile player who has become one of the finest corner backs in Mayo club football. A fiercely competitive character, his reading of the game is second to none, making him a very tough opponent for the best of forwards. Colm played all of his underage football as an attacker and indeed can still attack, as the Ballymun Kickhams Sevens team can testify. He regularly marks Michael Conroy in training and Colm claims that this experience has made him a much better player (Michael that is!).

Together with his brothers Alan, Niall and Seamus, Colm has given years of dedicated service to Davitts on the playing field and has the ability to become an excellent administrator when he hangs up the boots (or before then).
